CET bids farewell to long-time staffer Malie Mahoney

At their February meeting, the CET Board of Directors accepted Malie’s resignation, effective March 2, 2010. After devoting 15 years to the organization, Malie is making a move to develop a Christian youth program in Salem. “It’s an understatement to say we will miss Malie’s enthusiasm, creativity and hard work,” said CET board president Lisa Joyce. “We wish her nothing but the best, and I’m sure we’ll see her around the halls of West High School this summer as a volunteer and audience member.”

Robert Salberg, who has served as co-executive director with Malie since 2002, will serve as CET’s executive director.

Program to move temporarily to West Salem High School

SALEM – Throughout January, parents may reenroll their children in the Children’s Educational Theatre summer program, a five-week experience in the performing and technical arts. Because available slots fill up quickly, families are encouraged to register soon.

Beginning February 1, the program will accept applications for new students.

CET serves children who have completed third through twelfth grade. In 2008, CET added a production seminar program for high-school-aged kids who have previous theater experience.

This summer – the season runs from June 21 through July 24 – CET will move to West Salem High because of construction at the South Salem/Howard Street campus where it’s been for most of its 35 summers of operation.

“West has been so welcoming to CET, and we are 100 percent confident this facility will be a great fit for our program,” said Co-Executive Director Robert Salberg. CET staff and board members are working on carpool options and other arrangements to make the transition as smooth as possible for families, he said.

CET’s offerings include:

CET offers an engaging, high-quality education in performing and stagecraft arts. Children of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and interest develop and express their creative talents through CET’s proven curriculum. Children who participate receive a well-rounded education in theatre, demonstrate their skills through participation in theatrical productions, and develop skills for working with others.

Contact the CET office at (503) 399-3398 for registration information, or visit the CET Web site: cetsalem.org. Limited scholarships may be available.
